What a referral code actually does
A referral code links your application to a specific referrer, partner or campaign so the provider knows who to credit and which terms apply. It does not change the underlying account, and entering it correctly does not itself guarantee a reward — it simply makes you eligible to be considered against that campaign's conditions.
Where codes typically need to go
- Applied automatically when you click through a partner's tracked link before starting the application.
- Entered manually in a specific field during sign-up, sometimes on a screen easy to skip past.
- Occasionally accepted after account opening but only within a short grace window, if the provider allows it at all.
Why timing is the single biggest failure point
Referral rules differ by provider and campaign. For Tide's REFER200 campaign, start from the campaign link so the code is carried into the application, or enter REFER200 manually in the early referral-code box. If you miss it, Tide's referral terms allow referral-code entry within seven days of sign-up; contact Tide through in-app chat within seven days of account opening to request retrospective application of REFER200.
Why a code might not apply even when entered correctly
- You already hold, or have previously held, an account with that provider under the same details.
- The code belongs to a campaign that has ended or been superseded by a newer one.
- You applied through a different channel (for example, a general download of the app rather than the partner's tracked link).
- The code is provider-specific and was used for the wrong provider.
Verifying a code before you rely on it
Check the code against a source you trust close to the date you intend to apply, since campaign codes are refreshed periodically. Read the linked terms rather than assuming the code and the reward described elsewhere on a page match exactly — they should, but the terms are the definitive version.
If your code doesn't seem to have applied
Take a screenshot of the application step where you entered it, note the date and time, and contact the provider's support directly rather than the site that gave you the code — only the provider can see whether the tracking event registered. We cover this in more detail, specifically for Tide's REFER200 campaign, on our referral troubleshooting page.
A short checklist before you apply with any code
- Confirm the code or link is current — check the date on the page you found it, and cross-reference with a second source if possible.
- Confirm which provider and which specific campaign the code belongs to; codes are not interchangeable between campaigns.
- Confirm the entry point — a tracked link clicked before you start, or a field during the application — and use exactly that route.
- Take a screenshot or note the time you entered the code, in case you need to query it later.
Decision framework: is a code likely to work for you?
You are a genuinely new customer of that provider, applying through the stated channel, within the campaign's live dates: a code is likely to work as described. You have previously held an account with that provider, are applying through a general app download rather than the tracked route, or found the code on an old page with no visible date: treat the code as unverified until you confirm it against a current source.
Honest caveat
Even a correctly entered code does not guarantee a reward. It makes you eligible to be assessed against that campaign's conditions — spend, deposit, timing — and those still have to be met. Nobody, including this site, can promise a specific payout in advance.
