Will Tide's REFER200 campaign actually work for your business?
Three quick tools that read from our Tide offer record. Nothing you enter is submitted or stored.
Process
Step by step: opening your Tide account and qualifying
Eight stages from opening Tide's campaign page to the cashback landing in your Tide account.
Step 1
Start on the campaign page
Open the REFER200 campaign page rather than Tide's generic signup route. The campaign has to be attached to your application from the beginning, and starting from the wrong page is the single most common reason a reward never appears.
Step 2
Enter REFER200 at the code step
Use REFER200 when opening your Tide account. The referral-code box typically appears during the early signup screens — check it shows REFER200 and enter it manually if not. If you miss it, you have 7 days from account opening to contact Tide through in-app chat, provide REFER200 and your opening date, and ask for it to be applied retrospectively.
Step 3
Complete Tide's checks
You will need photo ID, your business details and, for a limited company, its Companies House number. Many applications finish in minutes; some are referred for manual review. Approval is entirely Tide's decision.
Step 4
Note the day your account opens
Every deadline is measured from the opening date, not the application date. Write it down — our deadline calculator turns it into the dates that matter.
Step 5
Move £100 of real card spend across
Use the Tide card for genuine business costs — software, fuel, stock, subscriptions — until at least £100 has settled. Watch for refunds, which are deducted from the running total.
Step 6
Fund Instant Saver with £5,000
Deposit at least £5,000 into Tide Instant Saver within 7 days of account opening and keep it there for one month. This is the step most people miss, because the funding window is much shorter than the card-spend window.
Step 7
Leave the savings balance alone
Keep at least £5,000 in Tide Instant Saver for one month. Withdrawing early normally breaks the condition, even if the money went in on time.
Step 8
Wait for validation
The official campaign page does not publish a payment-validation or cashback-payment timeframe. Tide decides reward validation under its applicable terms. If a deadline has passed and nothing has arrived, our cashback troubleshooting page explains what to check and what to ask Tide.
Timing
Tide's offer timeline and deadlines explained
The two windows are very different lengths. Most missed rewards are missed on the shorter one.
Why the clock matters
The card-spend window is 30 days. That sounds generous, but card payments have to settle, not merely authorise, and a payment made on day 29 may not settle until after the deadline. Treat day 25 as your real cut-off.
The Instant Saver window is far shorter — the applicable seven-day window. £5,000 has to be available and moved quickly, so decide before you apply whether that cash can sit still for a month. If it cannot, target the first reward step only and treat the second as a bonus.
Background
What Tide is, and how the account is provided

Who provides what
- Tide — the app, the card, the admin tools, membership plans and support.
- ClearBank — the licensed UK bank powering the account. Eligible deposits: FSCS protection up to £120,000.
- Business Account Offer — this independent guide. We provide no account and no money.
Tide is a UK business financial platform rather than a bank. It launched in 2017 to serve small businesses that found high-street business banking slow, paper-heavy and expensive, and it built its product around the admin that surrounds a business account: invoicing, expense capture, bookkeeping links and company formation.
The business current account is powered by ClearBank, a licensed UK bank. Eligible deposits can receive FSCS protection up to the standard £120,000 limit per eligible person, per authorised firm, effective from 1 December 2025, subject to eligibility and FSCS aggregation rules. We cover this in full on is Tide safe and FSCS protection.
Practically, Tide suits businesses that want the account and the admin in one app: raise an invoice, watch the payment arrive, match it, categorise it and push it into your accounting software without leaving the phone.
One app for the whole business
- ✓ Raise and send invoices — matched automatically when paid
- ✓ Capture receipts and categorise expenses in real time
- ✓ Instant Saver for VAT pots, tax reserves and retained profit
- ✓ Expense cards for team members with spend controls
- ✓ Connects to Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks and Sage
Tide plans
Tide Free, Smart, Pro and Max at a glance
Plan prices and allowances are set by Tide and change. Each record below carries its own source and last-checked date.
Choosing between them
The plans differ mainly in how many free transfers you get each month, how many team cards are included and how good the FX terms are. The account itself — the card, the app, invoicing, Instant Saver — is the same product underneath.
Work out your monthly transfer count first. If you make fewer than about ten payments a month, a paid plan rarely pays for itself. If you make dozens, the allowance usually does. The REFER200 campaign attaches to the account, not to a paid plan, so you do not need to buy a plan to pursue it.

What you actually get in the Tide app

Independent view
Who Tide works best for
Tide suits businesses that want the account and the admin in one app. It is particularly strong for sole traders, freelancers, new limited companies, and small teams that invoice clients and need expense cards.
- ✓ Fast in-app onboarding — no branch visit required
- ✓ Free tier available for low-volume businesses
- ✓ Company formation and account opening in one flow
- ✓ FSCS protection up to £120,000 via ClearBank (subject to eligibility)
Independent review
Our balanced view of the Tide business account
We publish no star rating and no aggregate score, because we do not run a verified review panel. Here is the reasoning instead.
Where Tide is strong
- Fast, mostly in-app onboarding with no branch visit.
- Invoicing and payment matching built into the account rather than bolted on.
- Company formation and account opening in one flow for new limited companies.
- Cash and cheque deposit routes, which many app-based competitors do not offer.
- A genuinely useful free tier for low-volume sole traders.
Where you may prefer an alternative
- Tide is not itself a bank; the FSCS protection (up to £120,000 via ClearBank) is subject to eligibility and FSCS aggregation rules — check the current position if you hold large balances.
- Per-transfer fees on the free plan add up quickly at volume.
- Frequent cash handling is chargeable per deposit.
- Heavy multi-currency use is usually better served by a specialist.
- No branch network and no in-person relationship management.

Safety
ClearBank and FSCS protection: what applies to your Tide account
Tide is not itself a bank — it is a financial technology and e-money business. However, Tide Business Current Accounts are powered by ClearBank, which is a licensed UK bank. Eligible deposits held through the ClearBank-powered account can receive FSCS protection up to the standard £120,000 limit per eligible person, per authorised firm, effective from 1 December 2025. This is subject to eligibility and the FSCS aggregation rules.
The FSCS aggregation rules mean that if you already hold deposits with ClearBank through another provider, those balances count toward your £120,000 limit. For most small businesses holding a working balance, this is not a practical concern. For a business holding a large reserve — a tax pot, a client deposit or retained profit — it is worth verifying the current position on Tide's own pages and the FSCS website before relying on any specific figure. We cover this in full on our FSCS protection page.
Compare
Tide against the main alternatives
| Provider | Cash deposits | Plans | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tide | Post Office / PayPoint | Free, Smart, Pro, Max | Strong invoicing, company formation and cash deposit options; not a bank itself. |
| Starling Business | Post Office | Free core account | Full UK bank with deposit protection; fewer bundled admin tools. |
| Monzo Business | PayPoint | Lite and Pro | Clean app and pots; limited invoicing depth on the free tier. |
| Revolut Business | Not supported | Multiple paid tiers | Best for multi-currency and FX; e-money rather than a bank. |
| Mettle | Limited | Free | Free and simple, backed by NatWest; narrower feature set. |
| Wise Business | Not supported | One-off setup fee | Excellent international payments; not a full current account substitute. |

FAQ
Common questions about REFER200 and Tide
What is the Tide referral code?
The code used on this site is REFER200. Tide's official campaign page says to use it when opening a Tide account. Follow the campaign route and read the applicable Tide terms before applying.
How much is the Tide REFER200 offer worth?
Up to £200 cashback: £75 for completing the qualifying card spend step and a further £125 for the Instant Saver funding step. Both steps have their own deadline, and Tide validates each one separately.
How do I get the £75 cashback?
Spend £100 on your Tide card within 30 days of opening your Tide account. Tide validates the spend and pays the £75 reward once the qualifying threshold is met.
How do I get the additional £125?
Deposit at least £5,000 into your Tide Instant Saver Account within 7 days of opening and keep it there for one month.
Who is eligible for REFER200?
Tide currently lists sole traders, freelancers and directors of limited companies as applicant types. Business structure, activity, identity checks and campaign qualification are separate, and Tide makes the final decision. The official campaign page should be read before applying. It does not publish a complete eligibility schedule on the rendered page.
Where do I enter the Tide referral code?
The referral code field appears early in the Tide signup flow — typically on the same screen as your name and email address. If you start from our campaign link, REFER200 should be pre-populated. Check it shows REFER200 before continuing, and type it manually if the field is blank.
Can I add the code after I have already signed up?
Yes — Tide allows retrospective code application. Contact Tide through in-app chat within 7 days of account opening, provide REFER200 and your opening date, and ask for it to be applied retrospectively. Tide confirms the final campaign outcome for your account.
What counts as qualifying card spend?
The official campaign page says to spend £100 on your Tide card within 30 days of opening. The official campaign page does not publish a complete list of qualifying-card-transaction exclusions. Confirm whether a specific payment qualifies with Tide before relying on it for the campaign.
When is cashback paid?
The official campaign page does not publish a payment-validation or cashback-payment timeframe. Tide decides reward validation under its applicable terms.
Is my money FSCS protected with Tide?
Eligible deposits in a Tide Business Current Account powered by ClearBank can receive FSCS protection up to £120,000 per eligible person, per authorised firm, subject to eligibility and aggregation rules. Some Tide members use PPT-powered e-money accounts instead; those funds are safeguarded and are not FSCS deposits.
Is Tide a bank?
Tide is not itself a bank. Its ClearBank-powered Business Current Accounts can hold eligible FSCS-protected deposits, while some Tide members hold PPT-powered e-money accounts whose funds are safeguarded instead. Check your sort code and Tide's current terms to identify your account type.
Is REFER200 different from Tide's Refer a Friend programme?
REFER200 is a specific partner campaign. It is not the same as Tide's standard public Refer a Friend programme, which can carry different reward amounts, spending requirements and deadlines. Always read the campaign page and applicable Tide terms before applying.
